Mindfulness Group for LGBTQ Teens (15-18)

Being a teen can be really stressful! Mindfulness is a powerful way to handle stress, and live life more fully. Mindfulness is all about living fully in the present moment, without judgment, and with an attitude of kindness and curiosity.

This 5 week class, tailored for teens, teaches proven awareness and concentration practices based on the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Through guided mindfulness meditation, small group discussions, and mindful movement, participants learn how to settle a busy mind, direct and sustain attention, investigate emotions and thoughts, cultivate compassion, and communicate with their peers. All this is done in a safe and supportive environment affirming of the experiences of LGBTQ youth.

Location: Jamaica Plain

Gender Xplorers

Multi-family parent/playgroup (gender expansive kids 11 and under and their parents and siblings)

This 2.5 hour group occurs monthly.  The goal of this group is to connect gender expansive children and their families, including siblings.  The intention is to increase comfort with gender diversity and foster support as families navigate the world with a gender expansive child. Families will meet together for first 30 minutes and participate in a fun group activity.  In the next 90 minutes, the parents will participate in a parent group to explore the unique situations their families are navigating, while parenting a gender expansive child.  The children (gender expansive and their siblings) will participate in a structured play activity to foster connection.  The final 30 minutes the two groups reunite for reflection.  Both groups are led by Licensed therapists.
