The Meeting Point is thrilled to host a screening of Your Fat Friend on Sunday July 28 at 4pm, followed by a facilitated discussion and interactive art project.
Film Synopsis:
Made over 6 years, acclaimed director Jeanie Finlay charts the rise of writer and activist Aubrey Gordon from anonymous blogger to NYTimes best selling author and beloved podcaster. Her aim? A paradigm shift in the way we see fat people and the fat on our own bodies. Her life changing work has brought her an ardent, international audience but also threats to her life. One of her biggest challenges is getting her parents to listen. Your Fat Friend, a film about fatness, family, the complexities of change and the deep, messy feeling we hold about our bodies.
Event Schedule:
This is a hybrid event; you are also welcome to attend the discussion in-person at our Meeting Point Location.
The film screening will begin at 4pm EST and the film is approximately 1:36 min long. If you have already seen the film, or prefer to screen it on your own (by clicking link above to stream film for free), you can use the included Zoom link to join us virtually for the post-film discussion and art project, starting at 6pm EST.
A bit about the interactive art project:
Fat bodies have a beautiful array of forms and textures, so let’s use this time to celebrate that! You’ll pick a part of your body to apply some paint, press that into a canvas, and use it as a base to make some abstract art. Like finding shapes in the clouds, let’s see what our bodies have to show us.
